The following persons contribute as Organisers to the DwP Course 2017:

Sabrina Büchler, Program Officer, Task Force for Dealing with the Past and Prevention of Atrocities, Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA)

Sabrina Buechler coordinates and contributes to the facilitation of this year’s Dealing with the Past Course. For the past 13 years, Sabrina has been working in human rights, humanitarian affairs - with a focus on protection - and conflict transformation. She joined the Human Security Division of the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs in 2012. At first with the Human Rights Policy Section and since 2014 with the Task Force Dealing with the Past and Prevention of Atrocities. Previously she has been an Adviser to the Council of Europe’s Commissioner for Human Rights in Georgia and at headquarters in Strasbourg (France). She also worked for the UN High Commissioner for Refugees in Central Asia and Malta, as well as for the Swiss Section of Amnesty International. Sabrina graduated in International Relations in Geneva.

Marilène Allemann, Academic Trainee, Task Force Dealing with the Past and Prevention of Atrocities, Swiss FDFA

Marilène Allemann is currently working as an academic intern for the Task Force Dealing with the Past and Prevention of Atrocities and supports the organization of this year’s Dealing with the Past Course. She holds a BSc in International Relations at Geneva University and a MSc in History and Hispanic Studies at Basel University. During her master studies she focused on Dealing with the Past in different contexts. In 2013 she did an internship with Freiplatzaktion Basel, a small NGO that legally and socially supports migrants from Sri Lanka. Since 2016 she volunteered several weeks in refugee camps in Greece and is active in several integration projects for refugees in Switzerland.

Rahel von Arx, Program Officer, Dealing with the Past Program, swisspeace

Rahel von Arx is program officer with the Dealing with the Past Program at swisspeace. She leads and coordinates specific projects and processes at different levels aiming at the safeguarding of archives relevant for dealing with the past. She also works and advises on issues around conflict sensitivity and the “do no harm” principle. Previously, Rahel worked with the Task Force for Dealing with the Past and Prevention of Atrocities of the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs FDFA (2012-2014). During her time with the FDFA, she organized a number of thematic conferences in Cambodia, Costa Rica, and Tanzania, and worked closely with governments, academia and civil society. From 2011-2012, Rahel von Arx worked with the Danish Refugee Council in Liberia and Côte d’Ivoire. She holds an MA in International Affairs from the Graduate Institute of International and Developments Studies in Geneva (2011) and a BA in Sociology from the University of Berne (2009).

Esther Kaplony, Intern, Dealing with the Past Program, swisspeace

Esther Kaplony is currently interning with the swisspeace Dealing with the Past team. She holds a bachelor´s degree in Eastern European Studies and English from the University of Zurich.
